Rhode Island bill to legalize raw milk sales

Latest update: 04/10/2024 Committee recommended measure be held for further study

Raw milk sales could become legal in the state of Rhode Island.

Currently, you need a doctor’s note to purchase goat milk in The Ocean State. The only other US state with the doctor’s note requirement is Kentucky. Most consumers travel out-of-state when seeking raw milk in Rhode Island.

Senate Bill 2295 would open up raw milk sales upon passage:

RELATING TO FOOD AND DRUGS — MILK SANITATION CODE

  • This act would permit and legalize the sale of raw milk.
  • This act would take effect upon passage.
